As you may know, some of worker ants do not work. Why are they lazy? In nature, where ants live, various changes occur. Ants may suddenly find a large amount of food, or they may be attacked by enemies and many of the ants may be killed. The "lazy" ants provide backup in such emergencies. Just as some humans are hard workers and others are laid-back, some worker ants do not work very hard, but ants can survive in the harsh natural world thanks to this extra resource.
